Continuing Students
Classes for students from ages 9+ with prior musical experience
Ages 9+
Applied Strings
A class for StringStars to continue learning string instrument technique, music reading, and ensemble skills. Classes are divided by instrument and suppport both new and returning students. Concurrent enrollment in Music Theory I is required.
Ages 9+
Intermediate Orchestra
Intermediate Orchestra is designed for string players ready to refine their technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills through more challenging repertoire. An audition is required in order to participate.
Ages 10+
Intermediate Band
Intermediate Band develops instrumental technique, tone quality, rhythm, and musicianship through full ensemble performance and continued skill development. One year of Beginning Band or an audition is required to participate.
Ages 12+
Mixed Choir
Mixed Choir is a vocal ensemble for students with mature voices who are ready to develop their musicianship through challenging repertoire, 3- and 4-part harmony, and refined ensemble skills.
Ages 9+
Beginning Orchestra
Beginning Orchestra introduces students to full string ensemble performance while continuing to develop technique, musicianship, and confidence beyond Applied Strings. An audition is required in order to participate.
Ages 9+
Cello Power
A supplemental cello ensemble where cellists explore new repertoire and develop ensemble skills through collaborative performance. Simultaneous participation in Intermediate or Advanced Orchestra is required.
Ages 10+
Jazz Lab
A jazz ensemble where Intermediate and Advanced Band students develop jazz fundamentals and improvisation skills. Experienced pianists, guitars, and bassists are welcome to participate. Simultaneous participation in Intermediate or Advanced Band is required.
Ages 10+
Music Theory II
Music Theory II builds upon the foundations of Music Theory I by exploring deeper musical concepts. Successful completion of Music Theory I or a theory placement test is required to participate.
Older Beginners
Classes for students from ages 8+ with little to no prior musical experience
Ages 8-11
Girls Choir
Girls Choir develops young girls' unique and developing voices through vocal technique, music reading, and ensemble performance. Students explore a variety of musical styles while building confidence, harmony skills, and choral musicianship.
Ages 9+
Applied Strings
A beginning string class where students learn violin, viola, cello, or bass technique, music reading, and ensemble skills. Classes are divided by instrument and welcome both new string students and those continuing from StringStars. Concurrent enrollment in Music Theory I is required.
Ages 9+
Music Theory I
Music Theory I builds the foundation for musical fluency by teaching students to read, write, and understand music. Students explore notes, rhythms, clefs, time signatures, dynamics, articulation, and basic key signatures to support their growth as musicians.
Ages 8-unchanged voices
Boys Choir
Boys Choir supports healthy vocal change while developing technique, music reading, and ensemble performance. Students explore a variety of musical styles while building confidence, harmony skills, and choral musicianship.
Ages 10+
Beginning Band
Beginning Band introduces students to their chosen band instrument while developing note reading, rhythm, technique, and ensemble skills. This class welcomes both new band students and those continuing from WindStars. Concurrent enrollment in Music Theory I is required.
Ages 12+
Mixed Choir
Mixed Choir is a vocal ensemble for students with mature voices who are ready to develop their musicianship through challenging repertoire, 3- and 4-part harmony, and refined ensemble skills. No prior experience is required.
Young Beginners
Classes for students from ages 1-8 with little to no prior musical experience
Ages 1-4
Music & Motion
A parent-child music class where young learners explore singing, movement, rhythm, and creative play while building early musical skills.
Ages 7-8
Recorder Karate
A fun introduction to instrumental music where students learn note reading, rhythm, and basic music theory while earning karate belts along the way. Students may advance to WindStars after one year with instructor approval.
Ages 8-9
WindStars
Designed as a pre-band class for young students, WindStars introduces students to note reading, rhythm, and beginning wind instrument skills. Students may advance to Beginning Band after one year with instructor approval.
Ages 5-7
Primary Choir
A fun introduction to music through singing, movement, and creative activities while building foundational skills in pitch, rhythm, and musical expression.
Ages 7-8
StringStars
Designed as a pre-orchestra class for young students, StringStars introduces students to note reading, rhythm, and beginning violin and viola skills. Students may advance to Applied Strings after one year with instructor approval.
Advanced Students
Classes for students at an advanced musical level
Ages 11+
Advanced Orchestra
Advanced Orchestra is GCHFA’s premier string ensemble, and is designed to challenge skilled musicians through advanced repertoire, refined technique, and high-level ensemble performance. An audition is required to particiapte.
Ages 13+
Fusion
GCHFA’s premier jazz ensemble, Fusion, challenges advanced musicians through diverse jazz repertoire, improvisation, and high-level ensemble performance, while performing regularly in the community. An audition is required to participate.
Ages 10+
Music Theory III
Music Theory III builds upon the foundations of Music Theory I and II by exploring advanced musical concepts, notation, harmony, and analysis.
Successful completion of Music Theory II or a theory placement test is required to participate.
Ages 12+
Advanced Band
Advanced Band is GCHFA’s premier concert band ensemble. Students refine technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills while preparing for concerts and performance assessments. An audition is required to participate.
Ages 12+
Mixed Choir
Mixed Choir is a vocal ensemble for students with mature voices who are ready to develop their musicianship through challenging repertoire, 3- and 4-part harmony, sight reading, and refined ensemble skills.
Ages 10+
Music Theory IV
Music Theory IV continues the study of advanced musical concepts through deeper exploration of harmony, analysis, composition, and musical application.
Successful completion of Music Theory III or a theory placement test is required to participate.
