Carolyn Suda

Cello

Carolyn Suda, now Emeritus, was a member of the music faculty at Monmouth College and served as adjunct faculty at Knox College for over thirty years. Principal cellist and soloist with the Knox-Galesburg Symphony since 1985, Ms. Suda appeared frequently in faculty recitals at both colleges, including performances with the KGS Trio at the University of Barcelona and the Reus Music Conservatory in Spain. Ms. Suda has devoted much of her professional life to teaching cellists. She has served as clinician at numerous cello workshops in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. She directed both the Monmouth College Chamber Orchestra and the Knox College String Ensemble and cello ensemble. Ms. Suda has placed her own students as cello performance majors at the Oberlin Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, and the University of Illinois and University of Iowa.

Before moving to Illinois, Ms. Suda served as principal cellist of the Atlanta Opera, Atlanta Choral Guild, Atlanta Pops Orchestra, and guest principal of the Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theater, and the Chattanooga Symphony. She also performed with the Atlanta Ballet and the Savannah Symphony. Ms. Suda served as adjunct cello faculty at Emory University. As a member of the Emory Piano Trio, she has performed at the Spoleto Festival, Monadnock Music Festival, and colleges throughout the East. Her teachers include Robert Marsh, Tanya Carey, Fritz Magg and master class study with Janos Starker and Bernard Greenhouse. She is a Magna cum Laude graduate of Florida State University and holds a MA in cello performance and pedagogy from Western Illinois University. Ms. Suda says: “My greatest joy as a musician is seeing my students perform and having former students return to our area as young artists. Nothing means more to me than their accomplishment and enrichment.”
